Experts Radio Lab
A live radio show where children are the experts!
NOW BOOKING A 2023 TOUR. Please get in touch if you are interested in having the Lab at your venue, Family Day or festival.
Experts Radio Lab is a live radio show where young people are interviewed as the expert. The interactive, drop in experience is hosted by performer Alice Mary Cooper and her brilliant team of hosts. Set within a fun colourful 80’s style radio studio, designed by Val Reid, the Lab invites young people to talk about what they know about and give their expert advice to others. The interviews are shared live to an audience of fellow interviewees, their families and curious onlookers in a specially designed listening area. Accompanying the main Expert Radio Lab booth and audience listening space, there is a Listening Station, located elsewhere in the building, where audiences can use earphones for a more intimate listening experience.
The work was commissioned by and for, the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, produced by Imaginate, for their Family Encounters at the National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh) and for Platform (Glasgow) Bridge Festival. It was a success at both festivals, with children enjoying the opportunity to talk about all manner of things from their love for gymnastics to knowledge on Unicorn fossils and Diabetes.
The conversations were recorded on the day by Sound Designer Gavin Mcabe with whom Alice is making a short sound piece and archive of young people’s expertise.
